Queen Palm - Syagrus romanzoffiana

The Queen Palm (Syagrus romanzoffiana) is one of the more cold hardy palm trees thriving in USDA hardiness zones 9-11 and being known to withstand temperatures down to 20 degrees f. for short periods. Some people do consider the Queen Palm to be slightly messy with large seed pods forming and dropping around it.

The Queen Palm can reach heights of 40-50' when full grown and is considered a medium-fast grower after the first year. The Queen Palm provides a tropical palm appearance with its long green flowing fronds which make a nice rustling sound when the breeze blows creating a tropical oasis right in your backyard! Also it makes a great shade tree so if you prefer a palm tree that offers shade, the Queen Palm is the way to go.

The Queen Palm does prefer a well draining more acidic soil and thrives in full sunlight. They can be planted in containers when young and kept as a patio palm if provided with plenty of sunlight.
